Companion gardening

Gardening is a simple way to access a connection to nature.

But it can easily become overwhelming or another task on the do-to list, especially as a busy parent.

I specialise in working with women, and mothers, using a flexible, feminine, child-friendly approach. Given my training in Postpartum Education and Care, I sometimes call myself a garden doula.

I also love working with older people in their gardens. Often, they are skilled at gardening but appreciate another pair of hands to make tasks more achievable.

My aim is to support you to meet your gardening goals while helping gardening be regenerative for you.

How we achieve this varies from person to person. It usually includes:

  • working with you physically on site

  • helping you talk through ideas

  • making suggestions and referrals if needed, and providing follow-up information

  • supporting you to keep your project or goals on track, and

  • providing company and empathetic conversation while we work, intermixed with companionable silence as you need.

New companion gardening timeslots available soon. For more information, please complete the contact form or email joanna@mothernatureconnection.com.au.

My land has always been a place of joy and beauty, but I didn’t feel confident enough to take on certain projects alone. Working with Joanna has changed that. She comes alongside me with knowledge, preparation, and encouragement, so I get to be part of the process rather than handing it all over to someone else. Together we’ve started wicking boxes, we’re planning to revive my orchard, and she’s even helping me to make a memorial garden. With Joanna’s support, I’m learning, creating, and enjoying my land in new and meaningful ways.

I’ve been working with Joanna for a few months now and am really loving it. There’s a great sense of achievement seeing the progress we’ve made, and I like knowing that we’ll get a productive session in the garden each fortnight, even if I don’t have time for much in between. I’ve already started referring her to friends. And I’ll be recommending her to my mother’s friends too – she’d be perfect for helping older people too.
